Decision Process
Information for Analyzing / Selecting
a Physical Barrier System
Organizing Overview:
There are three primary generic issues to
consider in selecting a physical barrier to increase
security of a specific location. It is helpful at the beginning of the analysis
to indicate a preliminary level of importance to
each element of the desired / required objective as
it relates to the specific application.
Fortunately, they are all gradient-based
issues, so they accommodate being graded on a scale
of 1 – 10 in an effort to focus on the perceived needs and available resources
for a given project.
-
PROTECTION: What
range of physical restraint is required?
-
AESTHETICS: What
range of visual dissonance is acceptable?
-
BUDGETS: What
range of financial resource is available?
Secondary issues that may be influential
in the final decision:
TIME FRAME: What
happens if this does not occur immediately?
MAINTENANCE: What,
where, when, and how will this be done?
PORTABILITY: What
is involved if this needs to be moved?
