 Site Analysis

Some sort of site plan will be required to use as a reference in considering the issues listed below.

It is necessary to document the physical parameters of the site, especially the approximate distance in linear feet requiring barrier protection.

Analyze the surrounding "approaches" to the building / site to assess whether or not there is an opportunity for a high-speed direct or perpendicular approach to the barrier system.

What are the vehicular traffic patterns as it relates directly to the site as well as general area traffic? Are there intermittent or seasonal variations? Additional requirements such as gates and other intermittent hardware should be listed.

Are there multiple conditions (entrances, building perimeters, vehicular ingress / egress, etc.) at the site requiring variations in the scaled range requirement of the three primary generic issues listed above? List multiple conditions.

wpe1.jpg (37225 bytes)What about the entrance(s) to the building / site? Frequently there is an open area in this portion of the site plan. Does this area require special treatment because it has a higher aesthetic requirement?

Consider the pedestrian traffic patterns as it relates to a continuous vs. intermittent barrier design. Is there significant variation in the magnitude of these movements?

Is there a need for additional lighting? Do the lights need to be in the barriers as walkway lighting?

In the historical use of the site has there been a need to have access to areas that are now contemplated as requiring barrier protection? Will it be necessary or preferable to have a "moveable barrier"?

Is the anticipated barrier plan to include planted materials in the overall design? How will they be watered and drained? Where are the current locations of these utilities?

Who will be responsible for the maintenance of the planted material and what skill level is required? Are local site personnel acceptable and available?

Would additional site amenities (benches, trash, ash receptacles, etc.) in the area help to mitigate the "fortified" appearance of the barriers?

Is freeze-thaw cycling a problem at the site for concrete products?
