Magnaguard Anti Graffiti System

The Magnaguard Anti Graffiti system allows stone surfaces which have been coated with spray paints to be washed with hot solvents like MEK(methyl ethyl ketone). The solvent dissolves the spray paint and allows it to be washed off the surface with a pressure water rinse. In some cases a second treatment is required.
The Magnaguard sealant performs in two ways:

  1. It seals the stone surface without being visible (no wet look) and keeps the spray paint out of the porous sub surface.
  2. The Magnaguard compound is highly stable and resists the solvent attack which breaks down the spray paint. It can be solvent washed 4 to 6 times before it begins to be removed in significant quantities from the stone surface.

The Magnaguard sealant is actually a penetrating type sealer so it can be resurfaced for added long term protection after several solvent washings.
In some cases with darker colors a slight color change occurs. In these cases, the base mix can be reformulated to bring it to the desired hue after the Magnaguard treatment.
The cost for application of the Magnaguard Anti Graffiti System varies with the specifics of the application, but a budget of $1.50 per square foot will not be exceeded.

Smooth Surface Texture

This instruction is primarily for the family of finishes designated Argentine (AG), Fresco Segundo (FS), and Travertine (TR).

Any spray cleaner or detergent works well to remove grease and dirt from the surface. Readily available products that work well include Simple Green (sold in grocery store cleaning compound section) and Speedball 2000. Speedball is a little harder to find but it will remove rubber scuff marks and most inks and markers (if recent application).

All of these types of finishes are easy to touch up with kits available from STONEWEAR with the exception of the TC family which is based on natural mineral based color. It varies as it ages and touch ups are more noticeable than the blemish.

Rough Surface Texture

This instruction is primarily for the family of finishes designated Sand Blast (SB), Natural Sand (NS), and Granite (GR).

The procedure is similar to that described for the smooth surface finishes but a bristle brush is required to get into the facets of the textured surface. This must be followed by a wash with copious amounts of fresh water to rinse the raised grease and dirt out of the textured surface.

On indoor commercial applications a Hudson type sprayer works well without putting too much water on the floor to be mopped up. Placing a towel or similar absorbent material at the base of the unit being cleaned works well.

The NS finish can be touched up with ingredients supplied in kits from STONEWEAR (the price varies with the quantity required). The NS finish requires some skill but directions are supplied with the kit. The SB finishes are more difficult to repair and it is usually best to let them age naturally.
