Airborne Strength Test

All STONEWEAR fountain basins are fabricated with an embedded stainless threaded ½" insert that provides an attachment point with a forged eye bolt at the centroid of the basin.
This allows for ease of placement in removing the basin from the shipping pallet to the final installation location.

The directions for this are explicit:

The stainless steel threaded embed with a forged lifting eye is included to lift off pallet and place on site. Do not lift over 6" or for a period longer than 5 minutes with lifting eye unless specifically instructed in writing by STONEWEAR.

In other words the embed is not intended to be used as a primary lifting point as seen in the photo where half of a sixteen foot Quatrefoil basin is being lifted over a five story complex to an interior courtyard.

The videos are even more impressive to illustrate the strength of STONEWEAR composites because there were wind gusts in excess of 30 mph " at altitude", causing the whole load to bounce around like a kite.

What is there to be learned from this?
  1. Read the directions! They are sent in advance to the job site and are packed with the product.
  2. The strength inherent in STONEWEAR composites exceeds by far the normal loads encountered in their normal use applications.
