12' x 24' Decorative Grills

Real time wind load testing proves the strength of STONEWEAR grillwork at MacArthur Center Shopping Mall in Norfolk, VA. As Hurricane Bonnie swept the Atlantic coast the 12’ by 24’ decorative grills were subjected to wind in excess of 100 MPH.

The grill attachment design presented some out of the ordinary design problems because of the following:

  1. Flow through grill design would not allow conventional steel reinforcement.

  2. Sloping car ramp decks made the attachment points vary for each panel; a site adjustable mounting design was required.

These grills are an integral decorative element in a six-location rollout in major US cities. The Norfolk project was the first in the series.
